Friday afternoon, dozens of residents, internationals and Israeli peace activists suffocated after inhaling gas fired by the Israeli soldiers during a procession against the annexation wall, west of Dir Ballout, south east of Salfit.

Residents of the village and several surrounding villages, and peace activists marched towards the threatened fields while military bulldozers and armored jeeps were bulldozing the fields and uprooted dozens of Olive trees.

The protestors chanted slogans against the occupation, the annexation policy and carried Palestinian flags, and chanted slogans against the Wall and the occupation.

Dr. Nasser Abdul-Jawad, member of the Popular Committee Against the Wall, said that the procession was carried out against the annexation and confiscation of the Palestinian lands, and “against the Sharon government, carrying all sorts of crimes against the Palestinians, destroying and annexing their lands”.

Also, Israeli soldiers intensified their presence in the western area of Salfit, barring dozens of residents and internationals from reaching the protest area.

Nasfat Al-Khafsh, coordinator of the Popular Committee, said that soldiers held him and 12 British peace activists for more than six hours in Al-Zaweya bridge area.

“Soldiers took our identity cards, passports, and held us without water or food for six hours, children and aged peace activists were also held, and barred from reaching dir Ballout”, Al-Khafsh reported
